Are you researching circularity or interested in making your work more circular?

This informal get-together is an opportunity to connect with fellow TU/e researchers working on sustainability and circularity—whether in engineering, design, AI, or other fields. Many of us are tackling similar challenges, yet we may not know each other.

Working at WUR, UU or UMCU? You are very welcome to join us, and meet your EWUU colleagues from TU/e.

Agenda

14:00 – Welcome

14:15 – 14:45 Shifting mindsets towards a more responsible and circular relationship with surgical robots

Robotic surgery is often praised for improving patient outcomes, but what about its environmental impact? While robotic surgery offers benefits like greater precision and faster recovery times, it also generates significant waste and emissions.

In this session, you will discover how a transdisciplinary team—including social scientists, surgeons, engineers, designers, and artists—is tackling this challenge from unexpected angles. How does the team combine Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Social Impact Analysis, True Cost Analysis (TCA), technical evaluation, and a visual artwork (by Maria Koijck) to drive meaningful change?

The team consists out of: Juliette van Haren – TU/e, Scarlett Wang – WUR, Sanne Jansen – UMC Utrecht, Laura Piscicelli – UU and Julie Legrand – TU/e

15:00 – 16:00 Networking Workshop

Sustainability in surgical robotics is just one piece of the puzzle—how can we embed circularity across all areas of research? In this interactive workshop, we invite you to explore ways to integrate circularity into your own work.

Through guided discussions, you will engage with colleagues from different fields to identify opportunities for change. Whether you are just beginning to think about sustainability or already implementing circular strategies, join us to reflect, share, and co-create solutions for a more circular future in research!

16:00 Drinks

Join us for drinks in the Zwarte Doos Café.

This Get-Together is part of TU/e’s Green Week. From May 19th to 23rd, students and staff get to immerse themselves in all things Sustainable! For more information, please see their website.

Meet i4CS, meet each other, join us and be part of the conversation on circular and sustainable research!
