July 3 | 12:15–13:00 | Online, Register here
Are you a teacher, researcher, student or in any other way interested in our collaboration? Every month the EWUU alliance organises an online session about research and education of the alliance. On the 3rd of July, the Lunch & Learn focusses on Digital Support Tools. Please register here.
We are happy to have Negin Salimi (WUR) and Qi Han (TU/e) who will explore how DSS (decision support systems) can be combined with MCDM (multi-criteria decision making) to support development of a circular society.

In this interactive session, we’ll dive into the role of Decision Support Systems (DSS) in the transition to a circular society. A recent survey among EWUU researchers shows that several types of decision support systems have been developed by EWUU researchers, for instance to support early-stage design, spatial planning, circular construction, and regional coordination. The reason for this is that there is an increasing (societal) need for development of tailored DSS to support complex, structured decision-making in multi-actor ecosystems.
In the Lunch & Learn session Qi Han will introduce decision support systems and explain their added value. She will also address challenges (such as usability, integration and trust) that were mentioned in the survey. Negin Salimi will introduce MCDM and showcase how combining MCDM with DSS can offer solutions (co-creation, role specific customization, intuitive design) for these challenges.
This session is ideal for researchers, policymakers, urban planners, designers, and anyone interested in how to effectively support complex multi-actor decision making in the field of circularity.
What to expect:
- What Decision Support Systems (DSS) are and how they work
- How MCDM can help select optimal solutions
- A step-by-step walkthrough of the Best-Worst Method
- Interactive discussion on the added value of combining DSS and MCDM to support decision making.
