There are a number of barriers to achieving circular solutions for medical disposables, varying by product group. Some barriers are easy to overcome, others require a systems-level approach. This is the conclusion reached by researchers affiliated with Circular Society after an exploratory study at the Utrecht University Medical Centre.
The study, conducted by Utrecht University together with MVO Netherlands (December 2021-May 2022), also shows that medical professionals and other stakeholders are open to circular solutions in their fields. Many different strategies are possible. These will be studied further in living labs and via system analyses.
