Research drives the advancement of knowledge and health, but did you know that an estimated 85% of biomedical research conducted in 2009 was considered unnecessary?

Additionally, (bio)medical research contributes to 2% of global plastic waste, and often research priorities do not align with the needs of stakeholders. The recently developed guide, “Socially Responsible Research,” offers a set of questions designed to help current and future researchers, as well as educators, reflect on what makes scientific research truly valuable.

But how can these questions be applied in today’s scientific practices? How do we balance the social and scientific value of biomedical research with its ecological impact? In this panel discussion, a diverse panel of experts including our own Florijn Dekkers, scientific coordinator of the Circular Safe Hospitals research line, will delve into how we can enhance the societal impact of research while minimizing waste.

They will explore questions such as: When is research truly beneficial to society? And are there certain types of research that should no longer be pursued? Florijn will look at these quesions from a viewoint of circularity.

Join us to discover answers and contribute to shaping the future of (bio)medical research.
